Phone Recorder 1.6 Join and record an ongoing telephone conversation I wrote Phone Recorder because I didn't want to pay $49.95 for EzPhone Recorder.  Phone  Recorder doesn't have much of a user interface -- just two buttons: "Start recording/Stop  recording" and "Exit".  When you click on "Start recording", Phone Recorder will join an  ongoing phone conversation on the same line, and the button label will change to "Stop  recording".  The conversation is stored as a .wav file in the same folder as the Phone  Recorder executable (.exe) file.  Phone Recorder runs under Windows XP SP2, and you  need to have a dial-up modem that has voice capability installed on your computer.  Some  dial-up modems that have worked well for me are the Rosewill USB RNX-56USB, the  Zoom 3025C, the AOpen FM56-PX, and the Best Data 56HP92-PCT.  The Rosewill is an  external modem that plugs into a USB port, and the others are internal PCI modems.  Be sure  to tell the other party or parties on the line that you are recording the conversation if it is  legally required to do so.

Web Thumb 1.1.3212.jpg

Program to create thumbnails of Web pages. Choose a image format (400 x 300, jpg by default) and enter a Web address; run program, the thumbnail is saved in the folder Images (by default). Web-Thumb gives good results for the big majority of the Web pages. You can also use this program to test a web page with different screen resolutions: e.g. set the Web-Thumb Browser size to 1440 x 900 and set the Thumbnail size to 400 x 250. The button "Show" shows the Web-Thumb Browser and the current size. The button "Stop" stops the loading of the Web page in Web-Thumb Browser. The button "Save Now" saves the thumbnail in progress. The button "Options..." opens the Web-Thumb options (saved folder, size of Web-Thumb Browser, format of image file name, scrollbars in thumbnail). This program requires the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or higher.

Process Hacker 1.2.5.0 bin.jpg

Process Hacker is a tool for viewing and manipulating processes and their threads, modules, memory and handles. It shows system services. It can also search through process memory:

  • for a sequence of bytes
  • using regular expressions
  • for strings, or
  • for heap blocks

It loads symbols from various libraries automatically and uses them when displaying the call stacks of threads (just like Process Explorer). It also has a disassembler derived from OllyDbg's which can be accessed when viewing PE files' exports.

Features

  • Processes
Process Hacker can terminate, suspend, resume, close active windows of and set the priority of processes. It can also view process privileges and groups.
  • Threads
It can also terminate, suspend, resume and set the priority of threads.
  • Modules
It can display the modules loaded by each process and their properties. It can also find the address of any exported function in a module, change page protection of the module's memory region, and read the module's memory.
  • Memory
It can display (using VirtualQueryEx()) the memory regions in a process' virtual memory space, and even read/write data using a built-in hex editor.
  • Search
Process Hacker also supports saving search results and even intersecting (finding common items between) two sets of search results!

Omziff 3.0.9.6

Omziff 3.0.9.6.jpg

Omziff is a straightforward encryption utility that uses various cryptographic algorithms to encrypt and decrypt textual files. These algorithms include: Blowfish, Cast128, Gost, IDEA, Misty1, AES/Rijndael, and Twofish.

Omziff also generates random passwords, splits files, and does secure file deletion according to DOD Standards. It is freeware, comes in a standalone executable file with no dependencies and is a completely USB portable application!

Why doesn't Omziff use 448 bit keys?
Believe it or not, using a 448-bit encryption key will not necessarily make your sensitive data anymore secure than a using 128 bit key. The formost encryption expert, Bruce Schneier, has written extensively on this and the explanation can be found in his paper, on "cryptographic key length". This is by far, the most comprehensive explanation I have come across to date. There are some other good discussions on basic encryption techniques.

What can I use to help me securely store my passwords?
There is a fantastic application which is also open source, called PINS, which incidentally is one of the many applications featured in the complete

Why can't Omziff integrate itself into the context menu as a shell extension?
I wrote Omziff so it would be a standalone application that is USB portable. To create shell extensions would require writing to the Windows system registry. There are, however, several good encryption software which do this.

PNotes 4.5.105

PNotes 4.5.105.jpg

Managing your day-to-day life is not an easy job to do. There are so many things to concern for - housekeeping, shopping, children... And what about cousin's birthday you always forget or important 'phone numbers? Undoubtedly your working place is covered with dusty yellow (or blue, or pink) sticky notes. If so - PNotes is right for you. Throw the physical stickies away and replace them with virtual ones on your desktop.
PNotes (Pinned Notes or Portable Notes, use what you prefer) is written entirely in C and Windows API (with Pelles C for Windows IDE) - so it is fast and light-weight. It has flexible settings - both for the program in whole and for individual note. Skins, fonts, colors, alarms, transparency level - there are all-in-one. Any portion of note's text can be formatted separately.
There is a variety of skins for PNotes and, moreover, you can create your own one if download PNSkinCreator - a small utility for creation PNotes skins. Notes can also be skinless, that allows stretching them to any reasonable size. Scheduling is also important feature of PNotes. It is possible to schedule each note to remind you about significant events by three different ways - alarm you once, every day at specified time or pester you every specified interval.
You may also dock notes to any side of screen (all together or each one separately) and get as result a kind of panel.
One more PNotes feature - ability to join notes into groups by your choice. You can create, modify, delete and relocate groups by simple click or drag-and-drop. Changing group for each note performed by dragging it onto appropriate group.
PNotes is fully Unicode supported and translated into many languages.
And, obviously, it is portable - it leaves no traces in Windows registry and can be started from any drive (fixed or flash) on any computer. Take your notes with you to any location.
I also want to thank PortableApps.com forum staff for many useful suggestions and spending time for testing the program.
I hope that you will enjoy using PNotes as I enjoy developing it!
